Book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho:
As comforting as a warm mug of mulled wine in Winter, this feel-good fable is a perfect remedy for any isolation blues. In the desert he has a fateful encounter with The Alchemist and learns a life lesson about dreams. The tale will leave you with many smiles and a couple of life lessons. The title of the book’s not bad either…
Movie: Inside Out:
Okay, so by the time you read this you’ve most likely exhausted all of Disney Plus since its launch last week but if you haven’t seen Inside Out yet, you need to. A Pixar movie about emotions and the importance of feelings that’s a surefire crowd pleaser, ‘but that’s a kid’s film!’ we hear you cry. Technically yes but we dare you to find a film that has as many layers as this, with a twist that rivals The Others, Sixth Sense and Shutter Island. An emotional rollercoaster from start to finish that will hit you right in the feels.
App: Duolingo:
Self-Isolating has many benefits and one of which is the ability to master those skills that you’ve never had the time to work on. Light years away from your memories of language lessons in stuffy classrooms, Duolingo incorporates learning into a game so you don’t feel stressed out if you can’t remember words or phrases. Granted you’re not sure when you’ll need to ask someone if they’re a horse (Tu es un cheval?!) but A+ for making learning fun.
Television Show: The Tiger King:
Coke vs Pepsi, McDonalds vs Burger King, Vardy vs Rooney. Forget them, you’ve not seen rivalry until you’ve seen Joe Exotic vs Carole Baskin. The Tiger Thing is a seven-part crime documentary series about a ‘big cat park’ owner who is accused of plotting the murder of a self-proclaimed animal activist. With more twists and turns than a game of Twister this perfect binge viewing fodder. Warning: You may have a sudden urge to give yourself a DIY mullet after watching. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
