The Classic Negroni by Crop45.

Few cocktails inspire such heated debate over its origins as the Negroni, they’re shrouded in mystery, intrigue and controversy. So naturally, we were drawn to it. Like dark matter to a black hole.
The most widely-accepted origin story about the Negroni concerns a certain Count Camillo Negroni. Count Negroni was a rogue. A seeker. A true original. A man to our own heart, for sure.
So the story goes: in 1919, after much wandering, he comes home to Florence. He heads to Caffè Casoni, where his friend Fosco Scarselli is tending bar. With a freshly-acquired taste for gin from his travels, he asks Fosco to sub the soda water in his beloved Americano for gin. Sweet Vermouth, Campari and gin – the Negroni is now complete.
Fast forward exactly 80 years, Martin Miller and two of his friends are having gin and tonics at a bar in Notting Hill. Unimpressed, Martin thinks they can do better. So, he embarks on a mad mission that will eventually lead him all the way to Iceland. A true original, his gin blends traditional distilling methods with the purest Icelandic spring water.
We chose to stay as faithful to the original cocktail as possible. Therefore, our classic Negroni recipe is as classic as it gets. Martin Miller’s for a traditional gin profile, with a fresh citrusy twist.
Martini Riserva Speciale, crafted from a 150-year-old recipe, is the truest expression of he house’s classic vermouth style. And Campari is simply the red heart of every Negroni.
Please, DO try this at home:
Pour all 3 ingredients in a rocks glass with plenty of ice.
Give it a quick stir.
Garnish with a nice, thick strip of orange zest.
Or better still, pop into the bar and we’ll be delighted to make one for you. Better chat, for sure.
